CRISTINA'S STORY: FROM 400 LBS TO CROSSFIT
You Don't Need to Be Fit to Start CrossFit
Cristina Anderson struggled with obesity for most of her life. By 2017, she weighed close to 400 pounds and believed that being active, athletic, or comfortable in her body might never be possible for her. The moment that pushed her to change came when she was delivering her first daughter. She realized she didn't want her child to grow up remembering her mother only as someone limited by her weight and unhappy with her body.
Walking into a CrossFit gym at her size was intimidating. She worried that everyone else would be fitter, that people would judge her, and that she wouldn't be able to complete the workouts. These are the same fears many beginners have before their first class. But her coaches adjusted every movement to her current ability. She could train alongside the rest of the group, work at her own level, and gradually build strength and confidence.
Over time, Cristina lost a significant amount of weight, but the biggest change wasn't only physical. CrossFit helped her discover what her body was capable of. Instead of judging progress only by the number on the scale, she began celebrating new movements, heavier lifts, better fitness, and things she had once believed were impossible. She eventually became a coach herself and earned CrossFit's highest coaching credential.
Today, one of the things she is most proud of is having her daughters with her in the gym. They are growing up seeing strength, movement, and hard work as normal. More importantly, they are learning to feel confident about their bodies and what they can do.
Cristina's story is a reminder that you don't need to lose weight, get stronger, or "get fit" before starting CrossFit. Starting is how you become fitter. At CrossFit Angkor, every workout can be adjusted to your level, so you can begin exactly where you are. Ready to write your own success story?
GOT QUESTIONS?
FAQ
Do I need to be fit before I start?
Not at all. Every path here is built for people starting from zero. Coaches scale every movement to your level from day one.
What if I've never worked out before?
That's exactly who Bootcamp and Personal Training are designed for. You'll meet with a coach before your first session so nothing is a surprise.
Can I try before committing to a plan?
Yes. Bootcamp includes a free trial class for Siem Reap residents, and neither path here requires a membership.
What's the difference between CrossFit and Bootcamp?
Bootcamp follows the same CrossFit philosophy — structured programming and quality coaching — just without the complex movements and heavy weights. It's a different door into the same standards, not a lesser version.
What's the difference between Bootcamp and Personal Training?
Bootcamp is a coached group class with people at a similar stage — a great way to build a habit and meet others. Personal Training is 1:1 with a coach, fully built around your goals and pace. Neither is "better" — it depends on whether you'd rather start with a group or with focused individual attention.
Can I switch from PT to group classes later?
Absolutely — many people start with a few PT sessions and move into Bootcamp or CrossFit classes once they feel ready. Others stay in Bootcamp long-term. There's no fixed path.
What should I bring on my first day?
Comfortable clothes and closed sports shoes. Water is available on site — your coach will handle everything else.
Do you speak English?
Yes, all coaching is available in English, with Khmer also spoken by our team.
